Gain refers to the amplification of the input signal to increase its strength, while Rec Level, short for recording level, is the setting that determines the level at which the input signal is recorded. Gain is typically adjusted at the preamp stage to boost the signal before it reaches the recording device, while Rec Level is set on the recording device itself to ensure the signal is recorded at an optimal level without clipping or distortion. **
